Abstract
European politicians are processing the phenomenon of increasing immigration, the economic and social problems of the society into the minds of ordinary Europeans through the responsibility of the Muslim identity. As a result of the stereotypical perception, the attempts to solve the problems are reflected to the Muslim segment in the form of regulations and prohibitions. The “Solution” turns into behavior in the form of anti-Islamic attacks that are increasing at an alarming rate on the social ground. Examining the whole of the produced public discourses, although the source is separate political formations, the commonality of the form of expression becomes quite evident when Islam is the issue. Social media contains a unique form of representation of the reflection forms of this common language. Analysis of relationship data beyond words, images and videos makes it possible to have inferences from real social formations at the point of discovering how Islamophobia creates common islets of public consensus by different segments with measurable metrics. The foundation of the relational context under consideration is based on a social phenomenon called “homophily” explaining the tendency of people to be in a relation when sharing same mindset. The data used in the present study were obtained from the Islamophobic public actors and their followers and followed accounts. Through the social network analysis method, the relationship data among the profiles has been made readable with various analyses and visualization algorithms. It has been concluded that although their characteristics, followed and follower volumes are different, anti-Islamic profiles tend to make connections in a similar way.
